The Unstoppable Rise Of Futanari Fandom

Written by FRANK STACY AND 3XWEST

“Rise Up And Fight!” – This was the rallying cry not just for the main characters of the sole-of-its-kind hentai phenomenon F.U.T.A. Sentai Squad, but also the rallying cry for futanari fans to make their voices heard and their love of this genre known. And trust me, we heard those voices LOUD and CLEAR!

In fact, it would have been pretty hard NOT to notice the stampede of subscriptions and fan support that we and series co-creator AgentRedGirl felt from the jump when this eclectic project was released. In hindsight, we shouldn’t have been so surprised – we picked the futanari genre because we believed in its untapped potential, and we teamed up with AgentRedGirl because of their exemplary track record as one of the top animators of futa porn out there. Even still, we were blown away by the success and positive sentiment of the series, so much so that this defining milestone continues to influence our business decisions three years later. Read on to catch a glimpse into our creative process for developing the project, how its lasting legacy has gone on to shape our current content mix, and how futanari fandom continues to grow more powerful by the minute!

Inside The Cockpit Of F.U.T.A. Sentai Squad

If you’ve read our recent article on the behind-the-scenes of making Hentai Sex School, you’ll know that by 2020 we had already cut our teeth on producing hentai animation in collaboration with beloved animation team AnimeShin Club. While our season one bonus episodes 7 & 8 were in the midst of development, and knowing we wanted to pursue animated projects in the next year with more vigor, we decided to reach out to other animators in the adult space so that we had the option to produce more than one project at a time. Animation, after all, is quite a lengthy process with its fair share of bottlenecks to be expected, so having multiple irons in the fire gave us more flexibility to move forward with more animated projects on our own timeline. Besides – we suspected we might want to explore different sexual preferences, niches, pairings and art styles in future projects, and so we felt it would be most appropriate to cast a wide net when it came to our scouting efforts. (Which, let’s be honest, was a lot of “cold-calling” on our end!)

We were very fortunate that AgentRedGirl was interested in partnering with us, and further still that they were just as excited about our off-the-wall project ideas as we were. Between myself (3X West, Adult Time’s programming manager) and Frank Stacy (Adult Time’s marketing director), we had been brewing up some concepts together that we felt could make for a smash hit, especially taking from our past experiences researching hentai trends for Hentai Sex School. This gave us an opportunity to try some of the trends and tropes that we didn’t get a chance to with that first series, returning to our brainstorming whiteboard from all those years ago and identifying some themes that had appeared in a lot of animated content but didn’t fit the school setting we had established.

It just so happens that three of those themes were…

FUTANARI.

MECHS.

GIANTESSES.

Seeing those three unrelated words, I had a eureka moment in my head. I turned to Frank and asked him, “Do you mind if I come back to you in the morning with a pitch?” He laughed and said sure, and I scurried home to start working on a proposal for a hentai series where FUTANARI women pilot huge MECHS to combat mutated GIANTESSES.

It seemed too good to be true, as such a seamless blending of trends that viewers were independently searching for. Mecha content was especially popular thanks to Overwatch’s D.Va character topping Pornhub’s most searched fictional characters for years at a time, and giantesses were reported to be one of Pornhub’s biggest rising keywords (by percentage). With futanari rounding out the three categories as a seemingly huge subset of hentai porn in general, all of them seemed equally matched to make an impact on the series’ success.

But more than that, it was also almost scary how cohesively these themes linked together. Mech hentai often depicted pilots being pleasured by mechanical wires, tendrils, and milking devices. A perfect combo with futanari, where we could show penis pumping, vaginal insertions, and breast suction all at once! Complications with showing sex between a giantess and a regular-sized human? Park that human inside the cockpit of a giant robot and let the two go at it on the battle torn outskirts of a futuristic city! Borrowing from so many iconic mecha, sentai, and kaiju pop culture mainstays like Evangelion, Gundam, Power Rangers, Godzilla, Pacific Rim, Sailor Moon, Devilman, Attack On Titan, and more, the synergy between storytelling opportunities and mass market appeal seemed obvious.

And luckily, I wasn’t the only one to think the idea was inspired. As soon as I showed my mock-up vision to Frank he instantly loved it too, and the project was greenlit within a mere 24 hours of me having come up with it! When we brought it to AgentRedGirl as a formal proposal they were fully on-board, remarking that it felt very different (in a good way) as a departure from their usual more lighthearted, closer-to-home content.

The next few months were a whirlwind of activity as we set out to make mech magic together. Our writing team and I plotted out the worldbuilding and story arc we wanted to tell for the first two-parter (including setting up some possible mystery, intrigue, and backstory for future installments). Meanwhile, I was also coordinating with AgentRedGirl to share our ideas and feedback on how the series would look and feel, including plenty of location and character references taken from anime, video games, and fanart. We also communicated some early suggestions for which sexual acts we hoped to see included. Together, we all screened professional hentai voice actresses for the roles (courtesy of AgentRedGirl’s amazing industry connections!) and tweaked final script details to trim down the dialogue to the final runtime.

After that? All WE had to do was sit and wait (and get more hyped every day) for the animators to do what they do best. And boy, did they outdo themselves here! The finished project was sleek, stylish, ambitious, adventurous, stimulating, and SEXY – we truly couldn’t have asked for more. And as we were about to learn, neither could the fans.

Leaving A She-hemoth Sized Footprint

We were floored by the results that F.U.T.A. Sentai Squad demonstrated. We had assumed that futanari content would be more niche than straight hentai, and thus the series might not do as well as Hentai Sex School had done, but on the contrary – our new series completely blew our previous series out of the water for sales and viewership. Between AgentRedGirl’s dedicated fanbase cultivated through their monthly Patreon, to hentai fanatics finding out about us through hentai blogs and forums, to new subscribers clicking curiously on our eye-catching ads spreading virally across adult tubes, we were seeing the formation of a whole new audience that we had never thought to cater to in years past.

Over time, this has come to have a wide-reaching impact on our business development. One of our most important teams for attracting customers, our Media Buying heroes and heroines (who you can read more about in our Oopsie! article from earlier this month) reports month over month that animated content – especially futanari – is among their top selling ad campaigns. Imagine that, an entire genre we may never have even known about has grown to become one of the linchpins to our success – something that a mere three years ago we might have scoffed about! It just goes to show that a leap of faith can change everything, as long as you’re willing to go into it with an open mind and heart.

Ever since the release of our two-part pilot back in 2021, we have plowed full steam ahead with the futanari train. We’ve gone on to produce a futanari stand-alone episode of Hentai Sex School, a 2nd two-parter continuing the story of F.U.T.A. Sentai Squad, a 4-part series called Customer Service from the creative minds of AnimeShin Club, and even a live-action futanari prototype for Oopsie! We’ve also onboarded several licensed futanari videos from partners such as Rikolo3d, Futanarica, and the o.g. AgentRedGirl themselves.

And we’re not done by a mile, with more plans in 2024 and onward to bring more futanari content to the masses. What started as a single footstep forward has resulted in a massive footprint left in the wake of F.U.T.A. Sentai Squad’s behemoth – or should I say she-hemoth – sized legacy.

Futanari Fans Rise Up!

If the current trajectory is any indication, the interest in futanari content is not going to wane anytime soon, in fact it’s more than likely to grow in the years to come. With anime becoming more and more a pivotal part of North American pop culture in recent years, and trans porn finally getting its due in mainstream spaces as modern audience attractions start to broaden, this makes for the perfect intersection of preferences to spark an unstoppable rise of futanari content – and the passionate fans that consume it. Without fans there would be no fandom, and so we welcome this movement with open arms and a growing catalog of exciting futanari projects for them to enjoy. So rise up, futanari fans – whether it’s a metaphorical rise or just a rise in your pants, we’re happy either way.
