With the release of the new mainstream series on Pamela ‘Bay Watch’ Anderson and Tommy ‘Mötley Crüe’ Lee’s (in) famous sex tape leaks, we thought it would be interesting for our members to revisit some of the most famous celebrity sex tapes in porn history!
Handmade pornography was around even before the availability of camcorders in the 1970s. Stags, loops and private home movies featuring good old “ins-and-outs” moments were commonplace. But, as scholar Lisa Z. Siegel stated in The People’s Porn, “the video revolution changed pornography by transforming both the production and the consumption of commercial pornography before it began to affect amateur materials.” (p. 225) Moreover, the “trend of leaking private materials to the public realm continued as digital technologies overtook the video market. The fascination with “the real” promoted an interest in celebrity sex tapes as well as reality-based amateur markets.” (p. 228)
Sex tapes are at the heart of many scandals, publicity stunts, and lawsuits, attracting paparazzi and drama! We love to see it! Sex tapes are the real things, baby!
With groupies all around, larger-than-life personas and orgiastic lives, it’s no wonder that a lot of sex tapes involve rock stars. Let’s head back to 1995. Pam and Tommy were a big deal in show business. Mötley Crüe took back their singer Vince Neil and were working on a new album, Generation Swine. One of Tommy’s assistants allegedly stole the tape from his safe. The couple discovered the tape release while watching TV. They sued but lost in court. In the end, Tommy took the whole affair quite well, stating in his band biography The Dirt: “I couldn’t see the big deal; It’s really just our vacation tape. There’s only a little bit of fucking on there. […] I guess if my career as a musician ever fails, I can always be a porn star.”
As all fans of Mötley Crûe know, Vince Neil can’t be second best! Labelled by Loundersound as one of the worst rock star sex tapes ever made (alongside Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, Kid Rock, Poison’s Brett Michael and Kiss’ Gene Simmons), it costars famous adult actress Janine (from the classic Pirates by Joones) and a friend of hers.
Are the 11 minutes of silent footage of Hendrix with two gals real or fake? According to Vivid Entertainment co-chairman quoted by Music Radar, critics are “not in any way a refutation of the authenticity of Jimi Hendrix The Sex Tape. Vivid took considerable time and spent a substantial sum of money to authenticate the footage and we are very comfortable that this is the real thing.” One thing is for sure: The plaster cast of his ‘guitar neck’ by famous groupie Cynthia Albritton is the real deal!
